What is Down Payment Assistance?
Down Payment Assistance includes grants, deferred-payment loans, or second mortgages that help with part of the required down payment or closing costs. These programs are offered by state, county, and local agencies and can often be combined with FHA, VA, or Conventional first mortgage loans.

Who May Qualify in California
General eligibility requirements include:
First-time homebuyers (no ownership in the past 3 years)
Purchasing a primary residence in California
Meeting income limits for the area (some programs allow limits over $180,000 in high-cost counties)
Minimum credit score, typically 640 or higher
Completion of a homebuyer education course approved by HUD
Some programs are open to repeat buyers or individuals purchasing in designated areas.
